Lighting Up Brentwood

Saturday 30 November 2019, 12.30pm-6pm, Brentwood High Street.

Lighting Up Brentwood is the largest community event on the Council’s calendar.  The event around Brentwood High Street celebrates the start of the festive season.  Much of the popularity of the event is down to the strong network of community organisations that are involved in providing activities along the length of the High Street, which is closed for the event. There are almost 80 market stalls selling festive arts and crafts, and hot food and drink, together with Santa’s Grotto, walkabout acts and other children’s activities. There is a packed programme of performances on three stages, primarily by local schools and talented community performers. The event attracts a lot of attention from the local press and in 2018 we estimated over 15,000 people attended the event throughout the day with a packed switch-on by the Mayor.

Thanks to our sponsors Brentwood Care Centre and Razzamataz, without you our event would not be possible.

There will be a full road closure in place on Saturday 30 November. The diversion routes for traffic will be (a) Weald Road/William Hunter Way/Ongar Road, or (b) Kings Road/Queens Road/Ingrave Road.

The High Street will be closed from Wilson's corner to the Kings Road Junction, with Hart Street changing to two-way traffic for the duration.

Make sure you check out our Lighting Up Brentwood 2018 video, you will not be disappointed!

Applications are now closed. Please email us at events@brentwood.gov.uk to register interest for 2020.

Shenfield Christmas Fayre

Sunday 8 December 2019, 12noon-5pm, In and around Hutton Road.

Shenfield Christmas Fayre is a real community affair with lots of local business involvement and community groups. A large attraction during the event is the stage hosting several acts throughout the day including local schools and bands. The main High Street (Hutton Road) will be closed for the event and will host over 60 festive stalls, family attractions, Santa’s Grotto, walk about acts and rides. 2018 saw an impressive helter-skelter, photobooth, large Italian market and piping band for all the family to enjoy. Delivered in partnership with local businesses and community groups, the event has become a staple on the local calendar. Last year, the event attracted an estimated 5,000 people.

Thanks to our sponsors Brentwood Business Partnership, Mullis and Peake, Hallmark Care Home, The Travel Boutique, Razzamataz, Rainer Hughes and Kinetic Podiatry.

Applications are now closed. Please email us at events@brentwood.gov.uk to register interest for 2020.

There will be a full road closure in place on Sunday 8 December, in Hutton Road from the junction with Chelmsford/Shenfield Road to the junction with Mount Avenue, but allowing access to Shenfield Station for taxis and visitors. There will also be a small road closure at the turning circle with the junction with Friars Avenue and Hutton Road.

Strawberry Fair

Thousands flock to Shenfield Common to enjoy the annual Strawberry Fair

More than 5,000 people came to Brentwood Borough Council’s Strawberry Fair on Saturday which was opened by the Mayor of Brentwood, Cllr Keith Parker and pop star Chesney Hawkes. Visitors were able to enjoy browsing the gift stalls, participate in the activities provided by local community organisations and charities, sample the delicious food and drink on offer and the all-day entertainment in the big top and arena, and have fun on the rides and games.

Thanks must go to our sponsor Weston Homes and our supporters Brentwood Baptist Church for providing the big top entertainment on the day, The Baytree Centre, St Thomas’ Church, Conservators of Shenfield Common, Grace and Rose Estate Agents, Brentwood County High School, Hopefield Animal Sanctuary and all of our wonderful volunteer stewards.
