Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to www.brentwood.gov.uk

This website is run by Brentwood Borough Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

We are currently in the process of replacing our website and are aiming to have it implemented by 31 March 2020.  The new website will address the accessibility issues that are listed below.

Some of our third party sites, such as the Local Plan portal are not fully accessible and will either be replaced or reviewed as part of the project to implement the new website.

How accessible is this website?

We know parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • many PDF, Microsoft Word documents and spreadsheets are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • the language definition has not been declared
  • some of the images on our site do not display appropriate alt text
  • live video streams do not have captions
  • the Press Release and Listed Building online search forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
  • Colour contrast is insufficient
