Hutton South Ward By-Election – 2 October 2025

The local by-election for the Hutton South Ward will take place on Thursday, 2 October 2025 between the hours of 7am and 10pm.

This will be to fill the position of councillor for the Hutton South Ward of Brentwood Borough Council, due to the death of Councillor Mark Reed.

Deadline for nomination papers

The deadline to submit a nomination paper to stand for election is 4pm on Friday, 5 September.

When will the by-election take place?

The by-election will take place on Thursday, 2 October 2025 between 7am and 10pm.

Will I receive a poll card?

Yes - each registered elector who is eligible to vote should receive a polling card with more information on how to vote.

You should  remember to take an accepted form of voter ID to your polling station otherwise you will not be able to vote.

How do I find out where my polling station is?

Your poll card for the Hutton South by-election will tell you your polling station or you can contact the electoral services team by calling 01277 312708 or emailing elections@brentwood.gov.uk.

When is the last date that I can register to vote at the election on 2 October 2025?

The deadline for registering to vote is Midnight on Tuesday, 16 September 2025. If you are not currently registered to vote then,visit GOV.UK: Register to vote.

Will I need to take ID when voting at the polling station?

Yes - each registered elector who is eligible to vote MUST take an accepted form of voter ID when voting at the polling station.

When is the last date that I can request a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC)?

The deadline for applying for a VAC is 5pm on Wednesday, 24 September 2025.

When is the last date that I can request or amend a postal vote?

The deadline for new applications to vote by post or to make any amendments to existing postal votes is 5pm on Wednesday, 17 September 2025.

When is the last date that I can amend an existing proxy vote?

The deadline for any amendments to existing proxy votes is Wednesday, 17 September 2025. 

When is the last date that I can request a new proxy vote?

The deadline for new applications to vote by proxy (except for medical, or employment emergency) is 5pm on Wednesday, 24 September 2025.

You can apply for emergency proxy on the grounds of:

  • physical incapacity
  • work or service reasons that occurred after 5pm on Wednesday, 24 September 2025
  • the photo ID you were intending to use to vote has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed, or has yet to be received if applied for recently.

Applications for emergency proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Brentwood Borough Council by 5pm on polling day (Thursday, 2 October 2025).
