Townhouses and neighbourhood renewal
Demolition of disused garages and the construction of three affordable rented two storey townhouses, including two units for specialist housing alongside improved pedestrian access to the adjacent parkland and refuse improvements at the rear of Whittington Road.
Presently, the access path to the parkland is minimal, poorly lit, and not a good standard for pedestrians, especially those with impaired mobility. As part of the development of the site, it is proposed to widen the access way and improve the boundary to the adjacent flats in the immediate vicinity and create a new refuse store.
The development for the Barnston Way site is in-line with the identified housing need within Brentwood. The inclusion of 2 of the 3 units as specialist housing is supporting the need for adaptable properties, which goes some way to ‘future-proofing’ the accommodations to the benefit of the Council and its tenants.
This development is part of a wider neighbourhood renewal project which aims to deliver neighbourhood renewal by way of:
- Council built affordable housing
- Public realm improvements
- Improving wayfinding and safer sustainable movement
- Landscape and urban ecology enhancements
- Rationalisation of car parking to include additional spaces
The timetable for the main elements of the housing build will be as follows:
- Works start 01/02/21
- Foundations start 16/02/21
- Masonry to eves level start 19/05/21
- Timber roof start 04/06/21
- Windows and doors start 05/07/21
- Internal fitting to complete 27/08/21
- Completion 13/09/21
As you will be aware the construction works to the three new properties being built on the old garage site is now well under way. SEH French have so far made good progress with the demolition now complete and much of the foundation works nearing completion.
Although not surprisingly the recent snow and cold weather has lost the contractor some time, completion in September this year is still expected.
In the coming weeks, the focus will be on the completion of the foundation works and brickwork below ground level up to and including the block and beam ground floors which will show the footprints of the homes being constructed. Along with these works will also be the drainage for the properties and their utilities.
In order to keep the surrounding residents up to date with the development the Council has developed a website where you will be able to see weekly photographs of the build as it takes place and included is an email address for you to use should you have any concerns which we will try and deal with as best we can.
We will ensure that we keep residents informed of the progress of the development but f you would like any further information please email email@example.com
