Winter plan

The Local Winter Maintenance Plan for Brentwood has been developed to ‘keep the borough moving’ during adverse weather conditions.  

Updates will be made on this website to keep you informed during any winter weather.

Highways (Essex County Council)
Essex County Council (ECC) are responsible for gritting more than 1800 miles of the county’s main roads during winter weather.  The routes that are gritted by the County’s contractor in Brentwood (known as the precautionary network) include all the major routes – A and B classified roads, all bus routes and roads to Fire, Ambulance and Police stations. The majority of A and B roads are main roads but some residential roads are included.


Priority footways (Brentwood Borough Council)
The priorities of Brentwood are to liaise with ECC Highways to concentrate on keeping the high footfall areas accessible where possible.  In adverse winter weather the Councils Street Care and Grounds Maintenance team are redeployed to hand gritting and clearing of snow in the areas listed below:

Priority areas may not receive treatment if severe weather conditions dictate continuous treatment of high priority areas, e.g. High Street, Shop Fronts etc.  All listed roads will be gritted in priority of footfall.
