Tributes paid to Councillor Mark Reed

Tributes are being paid to Councillor Mark Reed who has sadly passed away.

Councillor Reed represented the Hutton South ward at Brentwood Borough Council since he was elected in 2009. Councillor Reed also proudly served as Mayor in 2015/2016 and Deputy Mayor in 2013/2014 and 2021/2022.

Throughout each of his roles, Councillor Reed worked tirelessly to support the residents he represented and to champion the Brentwood borough.

Paying tribute to Councillor Reed, Councillor Barry Aspinell, Leader of Brentwood Borough Council, said: “As we come to terms with the loss of Councillor Reed, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mark’s family and friends at this desperately sad time.

“Mark's presence - his good humour, his smile, his sincerity - enlightened the Council Chamber.

“His care for others, people and animals, was well known from the East Ham Estate to Hutton Mount.

“His absence leaves a void that will be hard to convey but will be felt by all.”

Chief Executive of Brentwood Borough Council, Jonathan Stephenson, added: “We are saddened to learn of the death of Councillor Mark Reed and I know that his loss is felt across the council from staff to councillors.

“As a mark of respect, the flag at Brentwood Town Hall is now flying at half-mast and this week’s council meetings that were due to be held have been postponed.”
