Brentwood Borough Council’s Can in the Van initiative returns outside Sainsbury’s in William Hunter Way on Friday June 9 from 9:30am-2pm.

Can in the Van is an initiative that encourages people to donate food and household items which are then distributed through the Community Hub to those that need support.

There will be a van parked outside Sainsbury’s main entrance where donations will be received. Residents and shoppers can simply drop off food or household items into a red crate in the van.

These will be sorted and distributed to Brentwood Foodbank and Daily Bread Café to help replenish their emergency food parcels.

Mayor of Brentwood Cllr Gareth Barrett said, “Daily Bread Café is one of my chosen charities for my Mayoral year, so I am delighted to support them and the Brentwood Foodbank. This initiative is to help boost the stocks and donations that the community groups rely on to support people in food poverty. Whether you can donate one can or more, your help really makes a differenceVolunteers including myself will be there on Friday to collect any donations that come in and I thank everyone for taking part.”
