Brentwood Borough Council is progressing with its Local Plan Review and would like to explain the recent Call for Sites process, which invited landowners, developers, and members of the public to submit land for potential future use.
The Call for Sites is a vital early step in shaping the future of Brentwood. It enables the Council to gather information on land that may be available for a range of uses, including housing, employment, community infrastructure, and green spaces. This process helps to build a comprehensive evidence base that will inform the development of the new Local Plan.
A total of 133 site submissions were received and are now available to view via an interactive map and accompanying report on the Council’s website.
Councillor Gareth Barrett, Chair of the Assets, Projects and Strategy Committee at Brentwood Borough Council, said: “The Call for Sites is about gathering information, not making decisions. It’s an open and transparent way to understand what land might be available across the Borough, and it plays a crucial role in ensuring our Local Plan is based on robust evidence.
“We want to reassure residents that this is not a planning application process, nor does it mean any site has been approved for development. Every submission will be carefully assessed, and the public will have further opportunities to have their say as the Local Plan progresses.”
The Council emphasises that the Call for Sites is:
- An open invitation to suggest land for potential future use
- A tool to help identify both brownfield and greenfield opportunities
- A step toward understanding land availability across the Borough
- Part of the evidence-gathering phase of the Local Plan
It is not:
- A planning application
- An indication that any site will be developed
- An endorsement or support from the Council
- A decision-making stage
The Local Plan Review remains in its early stages. The next formal consultation (Regulation 18) is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. All decisions will be subject to further evidence gathering and public consultation.
