Why the Borough Community Assembly was set up
The Borough Community Assembly was established to improve and develop a stronger sense of community and to address the unique needs and concerns of our residents. By creating a platform for open dialogue and collaboration, we aim to make sure voices of the community from within our borough are heard and valued. The assembly was set up to allow residents to get involved with and have direct contact with the council
What the Borough Community Assembly is for
The main purpose of the Borough Community Assembly is to act as a forum for residents to discuss important issues affecting our community. It provides an opportunity to:
- share ideas and opinions on local matters
- collaborate on community projects and initiatives
- influence policy decisions and local government actions
- build stronger connections with fellow residents and local organisations
Through regular meetings and events, the assembly aims to create a more engaged and empowered community, where everyone has a stake in shaping the future of our borough.
Who will be involved
The Borough Community Assembly is open to all formerly established groups who represent groups or communities in the borough, regardless of age, background, or experience. The core representatives who will be invited to attend and represent their specific groups will be representatives from:
- Parish Councils
- the Business Improvement District
- recognised Housing Association
- the Community Voluntary Service (CVS)
- Citizens Advice (CA)
- Churches together
- Brentwood Access Group
We also encourage participation from other recognised and formal community, youth or environmental groups who meet the following criteria:
- groups that help the inclusivity and diversity to reflect areas of the borough’s make-up
- working for the benefit of the public
- represent more than 30 individuals or a specific underrepresented area
- have some form of membership or joint reason for existing
- have some accountability to the group they represent
- identified as a growing concern by our Community Services Teams
By bringing together groups from across the borough, the assembly wants to make sure that a wide range of perspectives and ideas are considered in the decision-making process. Those who meet the criteria are welcome to apply, join and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of our community.
