Electric Vehicle Charging

We have joined forces with Osprey Charging Network to launch a series of Electric Vehicle chargers at the Town Hall in Ingrave Road.

The new 50kW rapid chargepoint is open to the public 24/7 every day of the year.

Separately, three new overnight chargepoints have been installed at the South Car Park for the Council’s own electric vehicles. More chargers will be rolled out over the year.

Payment for the parking will also be required for the time that you are charging, which you can do at the pay and display machine using cash or using the payment app. There are signs in the car parks with details of how to pay online.

Electric vehicle charging locations

We have electric vehicle charging points in two of our car parks:

Chatham Way car park

  • 4 rapid charge bays with Combo CCS connectors
  • 4 fast charge bays with type 2 connectors

King George’s Playing Fields car park

  • 6 rapid charge bays with Combo CCS connectors
  • 4 fast charge bays with type 2 connectors
  • 4 standard active charge bays with type 2 connectors

You must also pay the appropriate parking fee whilst using a charge point.

Other charging point locations

There are electric charging points (2 rapid charge bays with type 2 connectors) at Brentwood Town Hall (Ingrave Road).

For other locations, view a map of charging points from Zap Map.

Future charging points

We have plans to roll out more charging points in our car parks and will announce more details as they are available.

We are also working with Essex County Council to identify sites for on-street charging points in Brentwood.

Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Strategy

The largest proportion of the boroughs carbon footprint is from transport emissions at 46% or 198,500tCO2e per annum. The main approach to reducing those emissions, in light of the Climate Emergency declared by BBC in June 2023, is through the public take up of electric vehicles and supporting electric vehicle charging infrastructure. There are currently 53 EV charge points in the Brentwood borough of which 28 have been installed by the council in public or private partnership models.
