Bus passes
If you live in England and are of retirement age or an eligible disabled person, you are entitled to an English National Concessionary Bus Pass.
Eligibility
The Bus Pass is available to anyone (male or female) who is of the age of female state pension entitlement. To calculate if you are eligible, use the State Pension Calculator.
How to apply for a pass
If you're applying for an older persons or disabled persons bus pass for the first time, you need to apply to Essex County Council:

Bus pass renewals
If you have an Older Persons bus pass, indicated by a blue strip on the right hand side of the pass, and have not moved since your pass was issued, your pass will automatically be renewed approximately two weeks before the expiry date.
If you have a disabled persons bus pass, have not moved since your pass was issued and this is for a life-long disability, your pass will be automatically renewed. For any other type of disability, you will get information telling you how to renew your pass.

Using your pass
In Essex, pass holders can travel from 9am until 12pm midnight, Monday to Friday and all day weekends and bank holidays.
Travel times and entitlement in areas outside Essex vary. Check arrangements before travelling.
Your pass will allow you free, off-peak travel anywhere else in England during the following times:
- Monday to Friday, 9:30am to11pm
- all day, 24hrs, at weekends and bank holidays
- any time on Transport for London buses.
An Essex companion pass is available for those who have difficulty travelling without assistance.

Trains
The local train service between Shenfield and Liverpool Street is operated by TfL Rail. Brentwood is in fare Zone 9.

Discounted rail cards
The Rail Delivery Group offers an opportunity for Brentwood residents to purchase a discounted railcard and we have made it possible to purchase or renew a railcard.
To apply for or renew an existing railcard you will require a unique code. This code will be issued to you at the following location:
Copperfield General Store
Copperfield Gardens
Brentwood
CM14 4UD
To receive your unique code you must take with you:
- proof of age (60yrs or over) – either a valid passport, birth certificate or driving licence
- proof of Brentwood residency – either a recent Council Tax bill or utility bill
You will not be required to make a payment for your railcard at the Copperfield General Store, however a £1 admin fee is payable.
Once you have received your unique code this will allow you to:
- buy or renew your railcard online at Senior Railcard
- buy or renew your railcard by calling on 0345 3000 250 (calls are charged at the national rate)

You will not be able to buy or renew your railcard at the Council offices and will be advised of the process as detailed above.
Elizabeth Line
The Crossrail project to create the Elizabeth Line aims to relieve congestion and support the development of London by providing new rail lines from east to west and north to south. The line will connect 40 stations, including Brentwood and Shenfield in the east to Heathrow airport and Reading in the west.
Using the service will make travelling in the region easier and quicker, and help to reduce crowding on London's transport network. It is hoped the line will create a 'golden corridor' providing a huge boost to the economies on the route, with thousands of jobs and homes for local people.
