The Government and Sport England recognise the importance that physical activity has on the health and wellbeing of children and young people. The vision for the Council is that strategically the Council needs to ensure that its leisure facilities will be of high quality, sustainable in the future, and that they broaden their impact on improving community health.

King George's Playing Fields - new developments
Work on the new King George’s Playing Fields scheme that includes a new pavilion, splash pad, adventure play, cafe, changing facilities and sensory room is nearing completion.
The new pavilion offers the ability for flexible space depending on the sports and use required. Special attention has been taken to ensure Changing Places changing facilities and a sensory room are included.
Visitors are advised that parking is limited during the construction period. Please walk, cycle or use public transport to access the park where possible.
New Pavilion
A brand-new building located adjacent to the site of the old pavilion includes:
- Reception with cafe
- Soft play
- TAG Active, a non-linear assault course for young adults/adults
- Sensory room
- Changing Places
- New golf club house with changing facilities
- Multi-purpose room
- Changing rooms
- Golf pro shop
Adventure Play Area
A Sky Play structure is an entire playground in one play structure. Creating the ultimate WOW factor, a sky play structure stands out as a unique landmark and creates attention and curiosity, encouraging visitors to come closer and explore!
Sliding down is the final thrill of any of the Sky Play structures. The strenuous climb is rewarded by a thrilling tunnel journey back down to the ground, making the children want to climb it all over again.
This three-dimensional universe has endless possibilities of joyful play and can keep children engaged for hours while developing their creativity and physical skills together with friends.
The adventure play area is a secured area and has a 1.8m high fence around its perimeter.
Splash Pad
A splash pad or spray pool is a recreation area, often in a public park, for water play that has little or no standing water.
The selected products utilise organic shapes and colours to transform the splash pad into an exotic play environment. To accompany the nature themed aquatic play structures and to provide a wide range of play opportunities, a variety of ground water jets such as sidewinders, directional jets and a cylinder spray have been placed to allow children to closely interact with the water.
Play Area Upgrades
The Council is also in the process of upgrading the play area in King George's and this will be carried out over the next three years. The toddler and junior play areas has been completed.
Hutton recreation play area consultation
Hutton Recreation Play Area is set for a refurbishment under the Council's 5 year Play Area Strategy. So far the Toddler Play Area at King George’s Playing Fields and the Play Area at River Road have been revamped by the Council’s contractors HAGs.
Plans for Hutton Recreation Area are already underway and the second phase of the consultation was held with residents.
Phase Two follows the first part of the consultation where a general questionnaire was sent to local residents, schools and those who use the area so they could complete the survey and help inform the new designs and layout. That part of the consultation closed on August 17, 2020.
The new Phase 2 has taken into account the feedback from Phase 1 and provides a range of ‘Picture Boards’ which illustrates various options for play equipment. For example there are three different roundabouts to choose from, and these options will be marked under a scoring system to gauge the response. The highest score will be registered as the most popular choice
