Brentwood Borough Council Leader hosts first business meeting at the new Town Hall
BBC Leader, Cllr Chris Hossack hosted the first meeting to take place at the newly opened Town Hall reception on September 2.
The Town Hall building has undergone a total transformation in the last 18 months to create new rental accommodation on the top floor, commercial space which is available for businesses to lease, and an open plan office for the Department of Work and Pensions and other community support groups.
Cllr Hossack said; “The Town Hall building was long past its best and we needed to bring it up to date and generate income which can be used on sustaining and improving our services to residents. The refurb has made a huge difference, providing a modern environment that will enable the council to function much more effectively and efficiently and I hope people will take the time to go and have a look at the borough’s much improved Civic building.
As I was meeting with Phil Stanier and David Manning from Lower Thames Crossing today, it made perfect sense to catch up there. It is light, bright, flexible space and we had a good update on the Crossing plans and moving forward, how Brentwood can get involved and how residents and businesses will benefit.
I want to ensure Brentwood is well placed to make the most of regional transport infrastructure developments but in the meantime I would encourage businesses to take a look at the new supply chain information that has just been released. This outlines the opportunities for individuals and companies to get involved in supplying materials and services to the crossing project.”
The new reception is now located in the centre of the Town Hall building and includes sitting areas, standing meeting desks and online facilities. Further areas of the Town Hall will be coming on line in the next few weeks in order to accommodate council officers and other partner services.
Public parking is available at the main car parks together with additional disability parking spaces which allow visitors a more direct route from their vehicle to the Town Hall reception.
