Press Release

Warley Playing Fields Outside Gym launch

Date: 26 July 2019

Outdoor Gym officially opens at Warley Playing Fields Family Fun this Friday (August 2)

The Mayor of Brentwood, Cllr Keith Parker will oversee the official launch of the new Warley Playing Fields Outdoor Gym on Friday as part of the Family Fun Day celebrations taking place.

The 58,000 gym is already being enjoyed by residents and fitness fans and offers 17 different exercise functions together with an outdoor table tennis table.

Brentwood Borough Council Chair of Health and Community Committee, Cllr Cliff Poppy said,  “We thought it would be a great way to showcase the equipment by holding the launch in conjunction with our second Family Fun Day of the year at Warley. The gym really is impressive with a great range of equipment and it has already become a magnet for people of all ages, children and teenagers and some who are clearly fitness fanatics. Our Family Fun Days are always popular so anyone who comes along can try out the gym too. Our Family Fun Days are such a popular event and we must thank BabyBallet and TuckIN Brentwood for their sponsorship which has allowed us to keep the costs down for local families. We all know it is expensive to keep children entertained over the summer holidays but you can come along to the Family Fun Day and enjoy the new gym or the play area for nothing. On the other hand if you want unlimited rides and bouncy castle sessions it is just 3.50 for a wristband which is seriously good value for money. I hope everyone has a great time and manage a few sit ups or lat pulls while they are there!”

The Family Fun Days run by Brentwood Borough Council are aimed at the under 10s, and include small funfair rides, bouncy castles, face painting, come and try sports, Punch and Judy, pocket money stalls, crafts, animal handling and many other fun activities. Some activities are chargeable, such as face painting. Trailnet with their different and inclusive bikes to have a go on will be at the Warley Family Fun Day  together with free fruit and bottles of water to giveaway to children kindly sponsored by Tesco Express Warley.

Equipment available for use anytime at the Outdoor Gym includes, multi user fitness frame, lat pull and chest press, sit up assembly, hyper extension bench,

horizontal ladder, ski stepper,  leg stretch,  air skier rower, air walker, arm swirl, twister, trinity cycle,  pull up bars, step challenge, ladder walk, Finger and arm stretch,

Chair of Health and Community Committee, Cllr Cliff Poppy, said, ‘These events get more and more popular with local families every year.  Parents and carers are under pressure to keep children entertained during the school holidays, often struggling with the cost of days out. We want to encourage families to stay local, make a day of it and enjoy our beautiful green spaces, and connect to the array of wonderful community organisations we have on our doorstop.
