Press Release

Deadline approaching to get involved in Christmas events

Date: 11 September 2018

Whilst Summer has only just turned the corner, Brentwood Borough Council is already hard at work planning this year’s Christmas events and the deadline to get involved in fast approaching.

Lighting Up Brentwood will take place on 24 November in and around Brentwood High Street, which is closed to cars for the day.  The event usually attracts around 10,000 people over the course of the day and consists of seasonal stalls, food and drink, Santa’s Grotto, street performers, rides, and stages with talented local performers entertaining the crowds all day. The event runs from 12.30pm with the arrival of Santa and his sleigh and culminates with the switching on of the Christmas lights by the Mayor of Brentwood and guests at 5pm, with the event ending at 6pm.

Shenfield Christmas Fayre will take place on Sunday 9 December, where Hutton Road will  be closed to cars and filled with fun festive activities, stalls and entertainment. School choirs, amongst other performers, will treat audiences to fantastic songs, and bands and singers will keep the festive cheer flowing as visitors enjoy mulled wine and local produce.

The events team is looking for local businesses who may like to sponsor the event. There are a range of packages available for all budgets, including bespoke packages for particular event attractions and advertising in the event programmes. The deadline for expressing an interest in sponsoring the events is the 21 September (not including adverts and some bespoke packages).

The deadline for stallholders and performers to apply is also 21 September. So, if you would like to perform to the crowds or have a stall of festive goodies to bring along, please ensure you make an application.

Lastly, the events couldn’t happen without volunteers, so if you can spare some time to help steward and keep everyone safe, we’d love to hear from you.

Brentwood Borough Council’s Chair of the Community, Health and Housing Committee, Councillor Chris Hossack, said: “These events are a staple in the community calendar. Thousands of people join us to bask in the festivities and get into the Christmas spirit. It is a great opportunity to become involved and promote your business or your talent to a large crowd or local residents. So please do get in touch and support us, either by way of sponsorship, volunteering, providing a stall or singing a song!”
