Two Brentwood school children have won a competition to design the Mayor of Brentwood’s Christmas card.
The Mayor, Councillor Will Russell, launched the Christmas card and Christmas poem competition inviting children from across the Borough to get into the festive spirit and submit their best drawing for the front of the card and to write a poem for the message inside.
The winner of the Christmas card competition was Joshua Owen, from Brentwood Preparatory School, who painted a robin on a branch in the snow. The winner of the Christmas poem competition was Sophie Gunn, from St Peter’s Church of England Primary School. Her poem ‘My Christmas Wish’ has been published inside the Mayor’s Christmas card and also in the Order of Service for the Mayor’s Civic Carol Concert on Monday 11 December in St Peter’s Church, South Weald. They each received a certificate and a book voucher and will also attend the Mayor’s Civic Carol Concert.
Both Joshua and Sophie joined the Mayor on stage at Lighting Up Brentwood on Saturday 25th November to help him switch on the Christmas lights in Brentwood.
Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Will Russell, said: “There was an exceptional standard of entries for the Christmas card and poem competitions this year; choosing the winners was no easy task. Joshua’s and Sophie’s combined effort has achieved a professional looking card that would not be out of place in the shops.
I was delighted to invite them on stage to help with switching on the Christmas lights.”
