Press Release

Date: 3 November 2017

Can you help the Mayor get into the festive spirit by designing his official Christmas card this year?

Pupils from schools in the Brentwood area are invited to take part in two competitions, to design the Christmas card and write a Christmas poem that will go inside the card.

The winners will receive a prize and an invitation to join the Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Will Russell, on the main stage at the Lighting Up Brentwood event on Saturday 25 November to help switch on the Christmas lights in Brentwood High Street.

Competition One: Christmas Card Design:

The winning design will be used on the front of the Mayor’s official Christmas card this year.

Entries should be:

  • On A4 paper
  • Portrait format
  • The design should be Christmas themed
  • Please do not use embellishments like cotton wool, glitter etc, as they will be difficult to replicate.

Competition Two – A Christmas Poem:

The title for this year’s entry is ‘My Christmas Wish’, and should be no more than 200 words. Only the wording will be considered, so decorations and artwork are not necessary.

The poem will be published in the Mayor’s Christmas card and also in the Order of Service for the Mayor’s Civic Carol Concert on Monday 11 December in St Peter’s Church, South Weald.

The Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Will Russell, said: “I am looking forward to seeing all the Christmassy entries for the competition. I know there are lots of children who like to draw, use their imagination and write, so I am looking forward to seeing how creative they can be. Good look to all those taking part.”

Please can you ensure all entries have the pupil’s name and age on the back and are sent to the Mayor’s Secretary, Claire Mayhew at the Town Hall, Ingrave Road, Brentwood CM15 8AY by 5pm on Friday 17th November with a covering note as to who the winner should be contacted through.
