Residents to save a third on parking in Brentwood town centre

Date: 12 July 2010

Brentwood Borough Council is pleased to announce that a discounted short-term parking scheme for residents, set up to support local traders, will be launched on 01 August 2010 in Brentwood town centre.  The scheme, which will reduce parking costs for Brentwood residents by up to a third at the William Hunter Way car park, will include a discounted residents' parking permit which will be issued to all residents in the borough from 12 July 2010.

The discounted parking scheme will enable residents of the borough to purchase a pay and display ticket at a reduced price, provided they display a discounted residents’ parking permit.  The scheme will allow all residents of the Borough to park for £0.30 less than non-residents when purchasing a pay and display ticket for up to two hours.  Every resident will receive two permits and the discounted parking scheme will run at William Hunter Way car park as a pilot, and its success will be reviewed after six months.

Cllr Louise McKinlay, Leader of Brentwood Borough Council said:

"we have listened to calls for cheaper parking and have responded with this initiative, which is cost neutral for the Council, therefore not jeopardising funding of other front line services. By displaying the new parking permits in their cars, residents will not only be making a saving on their trips to the town centre, but supporting our local traders, and boosting our local economy.  I am delighted that we can deliver on what matters most, a scheme to benefit both local businesses and residents.”
