How to Pay

Payment of business rate bills is automatically set on a 10-monthly cycle. However, the Government has announced that it will legislate to allow businesses to ask for their business rate bills to be spread over 12 months to help with cash flow. The Government is putting in place regulations that will, with effect for the 2014-15 financial year, allow businesses to require their local authority to enable payments to be made through 12 monthly instalments. Brentwood Borough Council already allows for flexible payment options.

For all methods of payment other than direct debit, your payment is due on the 1st of each month. For an annual bill you can pay over ten or twelve instalments. If you pay over 10 instalments you will get a "payment holiday" in February and March. If you pay over 12 instalments, the total amount you pay will be the same but your monthly instalment will be lower, you will not however have a February / March "payment holiday".

Your bill will normally show 10 instalments, however the following plans are also available:

  • 12 monthly instalments
  • 1 annual instalment (taken on 1 May)
  • 2 instalments on 1 May and 1 September

Direct Debit

This is the easiest and simplest way to pay.

Monthly Direct Debits (including 12 monthly payment) can be set up for the 1st, 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th of each month. To pay by direct debit you can complete the Business Rates Direct Debit Form. Please have your Non Domestic Rates account number (printed on the front of your bill) and bank details ready.

Online banking / direct payments

Depending on the method of payment used, payments should appear in the Council's bank account by the next day. To avoid reminders, you should allow up to 5 days for payments to be processed. To pay quote your account number as the reference and send payment to:

Account Holder: Brentwood Borough Council
Account number : 01731291
Sort code: 30-91-17

Remember - your NNDR account number is the number printed on the front of your bill.

Pay by Credit or Debit Card
