The Council's current Tenancy Strategy was adopted on 13 March 2013.
Every local housing authority in England must prepare and publish a Tenancy Strategy. This sets out matters which registered providers of social housing in our borough (including in our case the Council as landlord) must have regard to in forming policies about:
- The kind of tenancies they grant.
- The circumstances in which they will grant a tenancy of a particular kind.
- Where they grant tenancies for a fixed term, the length of the term.
- The circumstances in which they will grant a further tenancy on the coming to the end of an existing tenancy.
Our Tenancy Strategy was published as as consultation document, to give every registered provider of social housing in our district and the public an opportunity to comment on the proposals. A new Tenancy Strategy, contained within the draft Housing Strategy 2017-2020, is currently due to be published. Once the draft versions are published in 2017 a full online consultation will be held.
