Your Neighbourhood Consultation
The Neighbourhood Consultation took place 7 May – 1 July 2011. Thank you to everyone who responded to the consultation or took part in a consultation event.
The Neighbourhood Consultation followed on from consultation on issues and options in November and December 2009. It was designed to give local residents, business and other members of the community an opportunity to put forward their views, aspirations and priorities for their area and to influence the Borough’s planning policies. Once adopted, these will form part of the Local Development Plan to guide decisions on new development and land use for the next 15-20 years.
Two reports have been produced setting out consultation findings:
Summaries of both reports outline key findings:
- Summary of Report on Neighbourhood Consultation Events
- Summary of Report on Neighbourhood Consultation Findings
The above reports will be used to help prepare a new Local Development Plan for the Borough.

Land with Potential for Housing
In preparing the new Local Development Plan, the Council will need to show how we can provide sufficient identifiable land to provide a continuous delivery of housing for at least 15 years. In order to achieve this, the Council is required to identify land with potential for providing new housing.
A study has been undertaken which included an invitation to residents and landowners in the Borough to put forward suggestions for land to be considered for residential development.
Some of the suggestions put forward have been identified as having potential for housing. We have shared these suggestions with the public as part of the neighbourhood consultation, to enable people to give their views before any decisions are taken on what land should be allocated for development. These views are recorded in the above consultation reports.
Identification of the land as having potential for housing is not an allocation, and does not mean that the land will be granted planning permission and built on.
For further information see Questions and Answers.
A list and Maps of the land assessed as having potential for housing (but not currently allocated or used for housing purposes) are set out below:
