Postal and Proxy Voting
Voting by post
Anyone on the electoral register can apply to vote by post. You can arrange to have a postal vote for a particular election, for a set period or for an indefinite period. Postal votes can also be sent to an alternative address if there is a good reason.
Appointing a proxy
Electors who are unable to attend their polling station in person on polling day can appoint a proxy to cast their vote on their behalf.
The requirements for proxy voting are more stringent for those wishing to appoint a proxy for more than one election, eg if you are blind, seriously ill, disabled or your work/educational course regularly takes you away from home. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact the Electoral Registration Office at the Town Hall.
Applying for a postal or proxy vote
You do not have to wait until an election is called to apply for a postal or proxy vote. To request an application form for a postal or proxy vote, please contact the Electoral Registration Office at the Town Hall by emailing elections@brentwood.gov.uk or phoning 01277 312709. We can then send you a form pre-printed with your registration details.
Alternatively, you can request a postal vote application form by ticking the box on the Annual Canvass form delivered to your property during September.
A blank form can be downloaded below as a Adobe Acrobat PDF file but must still be printed off, completed and signed before you send it to the Electoral Registration Office.
