Request

· How much open space land the council is responsible for.

· The council's position on the use of wild animals in circuses, especially performing, on council owned land, including:

o The text of any motions passed; and

o The date on which such motions were passed.

· The council's position on the use of domestic animals in circuses, especially performing, on council owned land, including:

o The text of any motions passed; and

o The date on which such motions were passed.

· The last date on which any such policy was reviewed.

· The next date on which any such policy is scheduled for review.

Many thanks for your Freedom of Information request (ref 9509) regarding the use of animals in circus’s and events in the Brentwood area, this has been passed to me for a reply as the responsible Officer for this service area.

Please see below the Council’s response to the questions contained within your request:

1. How much open space land the council is responsible for?
The Council is responsible for approximately 957 hectares of public open space

2. The council's position on the use of wild animals in circuses, especially performing, on council owned land, including:
a. The text of any motions passed
There have not been any motions passed by Elected Members regarding this issue.

b. The date on which such motions were passed.
Not applicable.

3. The council's position on the use of domestic animals in circuses, especially performing, on council owned land, including:
The Council’s position is that it does not allow any circus to utilize its open spaces that involve the showing or performing of animals.

a. The text of any motions passed; and
There have not been any motions passed by Elected Members regarding this issue.

b. The date on which such motions were passed.
Not applicable.

c. The last date on which any such policy was reviewed.
This matter was last discussed by Elected Members at formal committees on 15th November 2011, 8th February 2012, 29th May 2012 and 12th September 2012 when the use of open spaces for events were reviewed, agenda’s, minutes and webcasts are available on the Councils website.

d. The next date on which any such policy is scheduled for review.
