Response

1)Under the Freedom of Information Act please can you provide the following information regarding recycling:
How are residents required to split their recycling waste? Recycling is split into four streams, Mixed Dry Recyclates, Glass, Food Waste & Garden Waste, any thing that can not be recycled is placed in residual waste sacks.

2) How many separate containers do households have? And when are they collected and how often? Three - Two for Food Waste, one internal & one external caddy & one box for Glass ( Garden waste bins can be hired or residents can use garden waste sacks) – note the recycling is collected in orange sacks provided by the Council and any residual waste is collected in black sacks (purchased by residents). Food waste, Residual, and Dry Recycling is collected weekly, & Glass and Garden Waste is collected fortnightly.

3) What disposal system do you use? ie where does the waste go to, landfill?
• Food waste is collected separately and disposed and treated through the processor designated by Essex CC. The food waste collected in Brentwood is bulk transferred to Tamar Hampshire.
• Green Waste is collected separately and disposed an treated through the processer designated by Essex CC. The green waste is collected and delivered to Veolia, Pitsea and Tamar, Ongar
• Dry recyclates are collected co-mingled in sacks apart from mixed glass which is collected separately in boxes. All dry recyclates are delivered for disposal and treatment through an SLA with Basildon Council whereby we deposit the collected recyclates at Basildon for ward transfer to their contracted processors. The co-mingled dry recyclate is transferred to Edmonton MRF at Enfield which is operated by Biffa Waste Services. The glass is similarly delivered to Basildon and collected for onward processing.
• Residual waste is taken to Landfill - Veolia, Pitsea landfill or Lafarge Tarmac landfill, Chelmsford.
