Claims made against Council

Request

1. The number of claims made by members of the public against the local authority regarding alleged injuries sustained by tripping over, falling into (or by any other means) potholes in public areas. Please provide this information by year over a period beginning at the start of 2009 to the present day.

2. The number of claims that the local authority settled out of court or after a court case, and the total amount of damages paid out to each claimant (s), again over the same timescale. In this instance, please feel free to redact the names of the claimants.

3. The number of false pothole claims that have resulted in the prosecution of members of the public for fraud or related charges, again over the same period.

4. The details of each of these cases, complete with the names of those charged, the venue of the case, the dates on which it was held, and the verdict, again over the same period.

5. Any evidence that any of these frauds was ‘ organised’, in the sense that it involved more than one person in a conspiracy or similar situation.
