Housing Benefits

Request

I am writing to you as there is unprecedented public support for reform of welfare and making work pay. Disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest because it is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the operations or activities of local councils.

I request that the following documents be provided:

a) The details on the amounts being spent on housing benefits for the top ten claimant

families listed for your council.


b) Information on the amount of families claiming housing benefits and a general overview of where they reside within the wards of your council borough (preferably provide information in map form). Please include information on average house prices and/or private sector rent for those areas.

c) The full list of amounts spent on housing benefits between January 1997 to June 2013; if possible breakdown the numbers and amounts spent between those who are UK, EU and non-EEA recipients.

Brentwood currently has a caseload of 1747 households claiming Housing Benefit in respect of privately rented accommodation. These are spread cross the area – I am unable to retrieve information regarding where the properties are located ward by ward. A map of the LHA areas for Brentwood is attached. Information regarding average house prices and/or private sector rents can be obtained from local estate agents.

c) The full list of amounts spent on housing benefits between January 1997 to June 2013; if possible breakdown the numbers and amounts spent between those who are UK, EU and non-EEA recipients.

Total expenditure is only available from April 07 onwards, however a breakdown of UK, EU and non EEA recipients is not available as this information is not recorded:
