Response

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 13th May 2013 regarding parish burials, this has been passed to me for a reply as the responsible Officer for this service area.

For ease I have responded to each question as you have raised them below:

1a) Does the council or contracted funeral publicize notices of public health funerals so family or friends can attend the funeral before the funeral takes place?

It would be normal practice for an advert to be placed notifying of a persons death and asking interested parties to contact the Council.
1b) If yes, where is this published?

Previous cases have resulted in adverts being placed in local newspapers those being the Brentwood Gazette and the Brentwood Weekly News.

1c) Please provide a template of the notice placed by the council or contracted funeral director for the public health funeral.

I’m afraid this is not available to provide but would normally be a simple black and white advert measuring approx 3” x 3” that would be placed in the public notice section.

2) Please provide name, address and email address of the contracted funeral director who places these notices so family or friends can attend the funerals prior to the funeral taking place.

This element would be handled internally by Brentwood Council as the burial authority.

3) For each public health funeral please provide :
3a) The deceased persons first name and surname
3b) The deceased persons date of death and date of birth
3c) The last known residence of the deceased
3d) Has the next of kin of the deceased been traced?
3e) The date on which these details and any additional details have been referred to the Treasury Solicitor, Duchy of Lancaster, Duchy of Cornwall, QLTR, National Ultimus Haeres, or any other organisation.
3f) Name of any other organisation that these details have been passed to.

Please see attached document, I’m afraid information relating to cases prior to 2005 are nor is any information not listed on the attachment
