Response

Please find attached Spread sheet detailing the responses to your request for a full breakdown of the number of Fly tipping incidents with the Brentwood Borough Council boundaries between October 2015 and October 2016.

Between October 2015 and October 2016 there have been three prosecutions for fly-tipping offences and five fixed penalty notices issued – fixed penalties for fly-tipping were introduced through Regulations in May 2016 and adopted by Brentwood Borough Council in June 2016 – we have set the fixed penalty charge to the maximum £400 with no reduction for early payment. There have been no unsuccessful prosecutions.

A total of five members of staff in Environmental Health deal with fly tipping enforcement as a small but important part of their work load – typically less than 10% of complaints dealt with by the team. They work in close liaison with our team at the Depot who also deal with removal of fly tips, litter and other waste issues.
