Local Authority sanctions
Please provide data and figures electronically in the form of an Excel spreadsheet and send through to:
1.For the financial year 2013-2014 how many people applied to your local authority for Local Welfare Assistance?
2.For the financial year 2013-2014 how many of the people who applied for Local Welfare Assistance did so because sanctions had been imposed by the Job Centre relating to their Jobseekers Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance claim?
3.For the financial year 2013-2014 how many active Housing Benefit claims were you advised via DWP notification that the claimant had their JSA or ESA stopped as a result of a) a sanction, and b) a disentitlement?
Brentwood Borough Council does not administer Local Welfare Assistance and so I am unable to provide this information.
Requests for urgent assistance are funded by the Essential Living Fund (ELF) administered centrally from Southend and applications can be made on line: www.southend.gov.uk/elfforessex
I am also unable to provide the information regarding the reason for JSA/ESA claims ending as a result of a sanction or disentitlement. Although information regarding the cessation of these benefits is received by the local authority, we do not record the reasons for the ending of these benefits.
